Edith E. Shipley

Edith Evelyn Shipley, age 89, of Gables Lodge, Amherst, formerly of West Leicester, passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, July 26, 2010.

Born in West Leicester, NS, she was a daughter of the late Roland J and Grace E. (Smith) Shipley.

She was assistant Post Mistress to her Aunt Jessie while living with her.  She was a former member of the Fraserville United Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years.  She returned to West Leicester in the mid 70's.  For the past number of years she had been a member and Elder of the West Leicester United Church and was active in the U.C.W.

She will be dearly missed by sister Dorothy (Elmer) Trott, Saint John, NB; nieces Janet (Stanley) Boates, and Jean (Robert) Prosser, both of Melvern Sq., NS; nephews, Peter (Pauline) Trott, David Trott, and John Trott, all of Saint John, NB.

Besides her parents and foster parents, she was predeceased by a sister Ellen Palmer and brother Carman.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visitation will take place on Thursday from 1 pm until the time of the funeral.  The funeral will take place on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 2 pm, Rev. Patti Blundell officiating.  Burial will immediately follow at the Leicester Cemetery.  Those wishing to make a donation in Edith's memory may do so to the Brookdale United Church Building Fund, or charity of your choice.
