Robert "Bob" Ripley
1925-2010
With heavy hearts the family of Robert Burton Ripley, age 84,
announce his passing at the Gables Lodge, Amherst on Wednesday,
February 24, 2010.
Born in Nappan, he was a son
of the late Archie and Carrie (Smith) Ripley.
Bob worked
for the Dept. of Highways for 30 years and was very involved in the
construction of the Amherst Golf Club. He was an
avid sportsman, especially enjoying golfing and curling. His many
other interests included cooking, music, the making of maple sugar and
woodworking.
He is survived by his wife Agnes
Langille, Amherst; 2 daughters, Nancy (Cecil) Smith, Linden, NS and
June (John) Hutchinson, Eastern Passage, NS; 3 grandsons, David
(Kenya) Smith, ON, Peter (Mary) Smith, ON and Jeremy Smith, Halifax; 1
grand daughter, Melissa Hutchinson; 4 great grandsons
Santiago, Linden and Cameron Smith and Eden Robinson-Smith; 4 sisters,
Isabella (Sheldon) Moore, Oxford, Evalena Graves, Sussex, NB, Rachel
(Everett) McEachern, ON and Fern (Arnold) Pitman, Amherst.
He is survived by sister-in-laws Ella, Amherst and Kay, Northport, NS;
5 step-sons, Lee (Judy), Amherst, Wayne (Anna), New Port Station, NS,
Gary (Sandra), Amherst, NS, Ralph (Colleen), Windsor, NS, Cyril
(Peggy), Three Mile Plains, NS; 1 step-daughter, Darlene (Roland)
O'Blenis, Windsor, NS.
He was predeceased by
his first wife Vada, sisters Doris Griffith and Marion Hopkins and
brothers Vaughn and Glen.
Arrangements have
been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St.,
Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visitation will take place on Friday
from 7 to 9 pm . The funeral service will be held in the
Furlong~Jones Chapel on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 11 am, Rev.
Philip Read officiating. Following
cremation, burial will take place in the Fenwick Cemetery in the
spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of the
donor's choice would be greatly appreciated.
