Mildred Bernice Des Barres

Mildred Bernice Des Barres, 82, of Brookdale, NS, and formerly of Bradford, ON, passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Thursday, March 7, 2019.  Born in Upper Nappan, NS, Mildred was a daughter of the late Elvie and Luetta (Read) Coates.

Mildred enjoyed knitting, quilting, sewing, crocheting and reading.  She was a graduate of the Grace Maternity School of Nursing and was proud of her time as an Obstetrics Nurse.  

She will be remembered as a hard worker and for her love of her family.

Mildred will be dearly missed by her children,  Susan (Wayne) Babin, Jeff (Carol Fielding) Swinamer, David (Cheryl) Des Barres, Cathy (Ken) Zweep, and Nancy (Charles Flippin) Des Barres; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Grace Jones and Joan (Allan) Hawkes; a brother, George Coates; a sister-in-law, Donna Coates, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Des Barres; a brother, Ralph Coates and a sister, Edith Hynes; a brother-in-law, Bill Jones and sisters-in-law, Nancy Coates and Marjorie Des Barres.

Arrangements are under the care and supervision of the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777), from where a celebration of Mildred's life will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 2 pm with a reception and time of gathering to follow. Interment will take place in the St. Denis Cemetery, Minudie, NS, at a later date.

As per the wishes of the family, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mildred may be made to the Canadian Lung Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
