Peter Sawatzky, 89 years of age of Amherst, formerly of River Hebert, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Gables Lodge, Amherst. Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, he was a son of the late Peter & Susan (Voth) Sawatzky.
Peter worked as an Air Craft Electrician for the RCAF for 30 years, retiring as a Warrant Officer in 1979. He worked at Aerovox in Amherst,then as a projectionist in at the Truro Drive In. He worked for the Corps of Commissioners as security at the Springhill Penitentiary. He enjoyed watching sports on tv, especially the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Peter liked playing snooker and darts and loved to play cards with his family.
Peter will be sadly missed by his daughters, Lisa (Carl) Quinn, Southampton, Elizabeth "Beth" Sawatzky, Toronto, Vanessa Sawatzky, River Hebert; grandchildren Steven Quinn of Southampton,and Marina Gilbert (Joseph) of Springhill; great grandson, Ryan; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lucy in 2013, sisters, Sarah, Tina, Susie, Ann, Helen, Margaret, Mary, Dora, brother John.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). The family will receive visitors on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in the River Hebert (Latta) Cemetery in the spring.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer Society or to Gables Lodge.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Gables Lodge for taking such good care of Peter over the last three years.
