Mary Margaret Dorothy "Dot" Gallant
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Margaret Dorothy "Dot" Gallant, age 98, at High-Crest Nursing Home, Springhill, NS, on Saturday, November 10, 2018.
Born February 8, 1920 at Amherst, NS Dorothy was the daughter of John and Violet Bourque(Lewis). Dorothy attended St Charles School and following graduation she was employed at Maritime Pant Limited in Amherst. On January 20, 1941 she married Alex Gallant, who was at the time a member of the Canadian Army. Following the wedding they resided in BC, where Alex was stationed, until his posting overseas. Following WW2 they took up permanent residence in Amherst.
Throughout Dorothy's entire lifetime her kindness and generosity was evidenced by faithful remembrance of all important birthdays and special occasions. Her special likes included reading, strawberry milkshakes, the Bold and the Beautiful, daily praying The Rosary, and cribbage(with Alex). Visitors to their home or cottage at Jackson's Point always received a very warm welcome. Pets 'Shaggy' and 'Tiger' were very special companions. On the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary she and Alex received an Apostolic Blessing from Pope John Paul II. Her favourite expression was: "God Bless Your Little Heart".
Dorothy is survived by a brother John Burke (Mary) of Oakville, ON and by nieces Deborah Burke, Brockville, ON, Diane Burke, Oakville, ON, Donna Burke-Madore (Marc), Orleans, ON, Darlene Devison (Derek), East Dalhousie, NS, a nephew Ross Thibodeau of Southampton, NS, and numerous great and great great nieces and nephews; also her dearest friends, Yolande and Bob Gothreau of Amherst.Besides her parents and husband Alex, Dorothy was predeceased by a brother Gordon and a sister Gladys.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). There is to be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held at the Holy Family Parish Roman Catholic Church, Amherst on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 11 am with burial to follow in the St. Charles Nativity Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
